Malcolm Marx was born on 13 June in 1994, in Germiston, South Africa. He is 189 centimeters tall and weighs 116 kilograms. He plays as a hooker and is said to be the best hooker in the world.

FAMILY.

Malcolm was raised by a single mother together with his brother Jean who is also a rugby player. The goal was to make their mother proud, given her unwavering support throughout their careers. Carina Marx, their sister, is an international athlete. Malcolm is married to Kirsten Marx, a medical doctor and she also loves cooking. The duo has been in a committed relationship for some time and are proud parents to their daughter, Kenna.

EDUCATION AND CAREER.

Marx attended King Edward VII School in Johannesburg. There he played at the backline at first and worked his way up to the front, featuring at flank and eight-man, playing for KES. He played for Golden Lions under-13 Craven Week side in 2007, before completing school.  In 2011, he joined a South Africa Academy team, and after the 2012 Under-18 Craven Week, he earned a spot in the South Africa Schools squad, participating in matches against France and England in August 2012.

Marx rapidly progressed through the Lions’ junior rugby system and eventually made his debut in Lions Super Rugby in 2014. He played for the same team in the 2017 and 2018 Super Rugby season. His first nomination for the Springboks was in 2016 playing for the Rugby Championship.

Malcolm was among the four Springbok try scorers in their 36-34 victory against the All Blacks in Wellington on September 15, 2018. During that year, he was nominated for the World Rugby Player of the Year alongside his teammate Faf de Klerk. In August 2020, he joined the Kubota spears in Japan following the implementation of the industry salary plan (ISP) by South African rugby in response to Covid-19. In June 2021, he was selected for South Africa’s 46-man squad for the British and Irish Lions Tour. He also represented the South Africa A team in their victory over Warren Gatland’s side.

RWC 2023

He was part of the 2023 RWC squad but he suffered a knee injury during training. This forced him to leave the squad after only one game. he was replaced by Handre Pollard. Kubota spears confirmed his absence from their squad for the current season. Marx is expected to return to action before his contract concludes in May 2025.

Malcolm Marx is known for his tattoos on his right hand and his back. He faced requests to cover them up during public appearances at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
