THE DEMAND FOR NURSES.

Africa as a continent is suffering a shortage of healthcare workers currently because of brain drain and the after effects of the covid 19 pandemic. Political and economic hardships in Africa have contributed to this problem as it has forced many healthcare workers, especially nurses, to go oversees in search of greener pastures. Salaries being offered by developed countries has captured hearts of many healthcare workers.

All continents in the world have suffered a shortage of healthcare staff after the Covid pandemic and they have come up with different ways to cover up the gaps like offering short courses for nursing or even on job training programmes. However, the developed nations have added advantages that has allowed them to attract qualified personnel from developing nations. This has left Africa with quite a lot of job vacancies for nurses.

There are different ways of applying for a nursing job of your choice in Africa. Many platforms have been created for example Indeed and LinkedIn and Careers24. Some medical facilities post their job vacancies on their websites so if you are interested in working for a particular institution you could apply directly like Mediclinic. You could also seek for recruitment agencies to help you but make sure they are legitimate to avoid getting scammed. Many countries also post open positions on their websites or their department of health websites.

WHAT NURSING SPECIALTIES ARE ON DEMAND IN AFRICA.

There is always a need for nurses in every country because people fall sick every day, accidents happen every day, there is crime almost everywhere, people are giving birth every day, children are every where and people are dying every day. According to my own point of view, almost every specialty in nursing is on demand and that is why nations are coming up with short training programmes to beat the constant increase in demand for nurses in Africa.

The salary of a nurse depends on their location and the demand of the kind of services they offer or their area of specialization as well as their position and work place eg a hospital or a mental health facility.
