BRIEF BACKGROUND.
Willie Le Roux was born on 18 August 1989 in Stellenbosch, South Africa. He attended Paul Roos Gymnasium in the Western Cape for his education. The South African rugby player Willie stands 186 centimeters tall and he weighs 90 kilograms. The Springboks fullback, Roux, is engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Holly Clare Nichol. Holly is a chef and health specialist and she owns The Flavour Basket.
CAREER.
The Stellenbosch native made his first professional debut with Boland Cavaliers. He played for the club for two years, assisting them to earn the 2011 Currie Cup First Division title. In 2012, Willie joined Griquas. In June 2013, he penned down a contract with the Cheetahs. After the 2015 Super Rugby season, the Springboks star played for the Canon Eagles before joining the Sharks in 2016. He then played for Wasps from 2017 to 2019, after which he joined Toyota Verblitz in the Top League and played for them until 2023.
INTERNATIONAL CAREER.
Roux’s international career started during the South African Quadrangular Tournament in 2013. He also played a pivotal role in South Africa’s 2013 Rugby Championship campaign. Le Roux started the 2013 end-of-year tests on the bench for the match against Wales, however, he had to play as a substitute in the full-back position. It was a position he was to retain for the remaining two tour matches.
Roux produced an outstanding performance to help South Africa beat Wales during the 2014 incoming tours, scoring a try and providing three assists. He was then nominated for the IRB Player of the Year award in 2014. Le Roux was named in South Africa’s 33-man squad for the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cup.
