Having started his rugby career as a youngster at Tygerberg High School, he represented the Western Province Rugby in various junior championships and has played for several teams including the DHL Stormers and the Blue Bulls.

BRIEF BACKGROUND.

Marvin Orie was born on 15 February 1993 in Belhar, Cape Town, South Africa, to Sydney and Bridget. The iconic player is 201 centimeters tall and weighs 115 kilograms. He has black hair and dark brown eyes. His mother, Bridget, is a nurse at N1 City Hospital, while his dad works as a salesman at a steel and engineering company. Marvin Orie’s wife is Petrushce Steenkamp. The two tied the knot in February 2021 and have a son called Loxton Sydney, who they got in 2020 before marriage.

CAREER AND EDUCATION.

The rugby union player attended Tygerberg High School and later was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of Pretoria while playing rugby for the Bulls. Later on, he joined the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied psychology. He debuted in the sports arena while studying at Tygerberg High School. While at high school, he represented the Western Province from2006 Under-13 Craven Week and 2009 Under-16 Grant Khomo Week, up to the Under-18 level at the 2010 U-18 Craven Week tournaments. Afterward, he moved north and signed with the Blue Bulls during the 2011 season.

Upon completing high school, he played amateur rugby while studying at the University of Pretoria and took part in the university’s UP Tuks team, which won the 2013 Varsity Cup. After playing for the Blue Bulls from 2011 to 2016, Orie moved to Johannesburg, where he joined the Lions and participated in Super Rugby tournaments.

He also part of the Golden Lions squad that played in the Currie Cup from 2017 to 2021. The professional athlete debuted internationally in 2018 when he was named part of the Springbok squad against Wales in Washington DC. In February 2021, the famous Springbok lock returned to Western Province Rugby after signing a contract with the DHL Stormers. Currently he plays for Union Sportive Arlequins Perpignanais, also referred to as USA Perpignan or Perpignan.
