WAITERING.
Serving food and beverages in a timely and efficient manner and most importantly, in a personalized way is a waiters’ responsibility in restaurants and dining rooms aboard a cruise ship. Waiters ensure that guests get the best experience as they work directly with them. A waiter is supposed to have knowledge and experience in customer services, communication and interpersonal skills and must know the menu.
CATERING.
Catering is the process of preparing and providing food for different types of events on a cruise ship. It fulfils food and beverage requirements of cruise passengers and staff members of cruise. The cruise ships may have a number of restaurants offering a large variety in terms of cuisines offered. The kitchen is usually divided into the hot galley and cold galley. The hot galley positions include all types of cooking-vegetables, fish, soup, and grill. The cold galley positions include baking, pastry, and buffets. If you have some experience in catering, apply for relevant positions within the Food and Beverages department.
REQIUREMENTS.
Usually, people start as assistant waiters and all that is required is little or no experience. You don’t really need any qualifications like courses or degrees. However, previous experience is more preferable or it is an added advantage. Bartenders, wine stewards and cocktail waitresses/waiters must usually have prior experience. Again, a well-crafted CV is a necessity. As for a job in the culinary department, you are required to have a qualification that is related to the position you are applying for. Experience too plays a great role in increasing your chances of being hired to work on a cruise ship culinary department.
