Has social media done more harm than good or, more good than harm? Communication has become so easy as well as learning different kinds of things too. Some people are building a sense of belonging and getting their confidence and sometimes self-esteem boosted through social media. We get to learn about other peoples’ way of life through social media. Many businesses are actually using it to their advantage. Marketing is way easier and some of these businesses no longer need a physical presence.

On the other hand, social media has pushed a lot of individuals into serious mental health problems. It has caused so much stress on people that has caused many to fall into depression. People are competing on social media, with everybody trying to appear perfect and more successful. A lot of people are committing suicide because of the pressure they are getting from social media. People are becoming more and more dissatisfied with their achievements.

Well, everybody is successful on social media, that’s how it appears. They have a lot of money, they wear expensive clothes and shoes along with expensive bags, expensive hair and are always on vacation. Their relationships are perfect and they have it all figured out. Not forgetting how beautiful everybody appears with perfect skin and even the whitest teeth ever.

At some point, one would like to convince him/herself that it’s just a filter but when they start explain how to get that kind of skin then one would believe that it is real. The result will be body image dissatisfaction.

We all desire to have good life and good things. There’s always a time for everything so be content with the little you have because someone else wishes to be where you are right now. And everybody is dealing with some sort of issue you do not know about. They could be showing off expensive cars whatsoever but they could be battling cancer secretly.

Love your self more, be confident in yourself more such that when someone discourages you on social media or if they appear to be better in any way, you can still walk with your head high. all I’m trying to say is that do not allow anything you see on social media affect you negatively. It is now a matter of deciding to take what builds you and avoid what can disturb your mental health.

Let your network be full of positive people and content that inspires you to become a better person. Avoid spending too much of your time on social media scrolling up and down. Rather include other important things on your schedule. Never try to replace your direct social life with social media. Have time for your friends and family. Parents should remember their kids need attention and physical interactions with them help build strong bonds.

Failure to give attention to your children may make them feel like you don’t love them. Keep in mind there are children who post about their families, posting family pics taken on an outing. And that will make your kids think their parents are better, then a feeling of pressure kicks in. They end up going out looking for anyone who can give them attention and usually they fall into the hands of wrong people.

Teaching people social media literacy can maximize their chances of having balanced, safe, and meaningful experiences on these platforms. Use social media wisely in a healthy manner to avoid getting any sort of negative impression about who you are.
