Many people tend to assume that their best friends are in love with them and they could marry them in the near future. They misinterpret their love and care as well as their kind gestures. Well, they are your friends so you should expect them to be kind and loving and caring towards you.

From another point of view, some friends will do a lot of favors for you as a way of expressing how they feel about you. This is usually more than what you think you share. They would be there for you in every situation and always try to make sure that no one else gets your attention.

People say that actions speak louder than words but when it comes to friendship and relationships effective communication plays a pivotal role. Words accompanied by actions provide clarity on the kind of relationship you have with someone.

Do not assume that someone is in love with you just because they are giving you their attention and all goodies you ask of them. Some people are naturally kind and caring. They value friendships so much that they can do anything for you whilst they are in love with someone else.

Protect yourself from a serious heartbreak by defining your relationship. Ask the other person about how they feel about you. Express how you feel and find a common ground. If they don’t feel the same way, you may consider keeping a distance or going separate ways so you can heal and create space in your heart for someone who will reciprocate your love.

Defining relationships helps save time because you may waste it thinking you are in a relationship with someone, only for you to hear they are getting married to somebody else. Do not invest your emotions in someone who is not into you.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with opening up about your feelings. A true friendship will not be broken by the fact that one has developed feelings for another. You can never decide for the heart on whom to fall in love with. A good friend will actually hep you deal with the pain of realizing that they don’t feel the same way.

Do not assume, but rather ask, talk about it. Is it a normal friendship or are we dating, are we in a relationship that is meant to lead us to marriage?
