Most people are getting confused when it comes to distinguishing the issue of sexual orientation from gender. Both terms may work together but are different. People now use the term gender on matters of sexual orientation. Let’s try to clarify the differences.
Gender is the same as sex. Gender are properties that distinguish us humans and animals too on the basis of our reproductive roles. That is where we get the identities of male and female. Gender is visible and tangible.
It had nothing to do with feelings and attraction. It is what you have between your legs. We go for scans to check the gender of our foetus so it is something we can see. After giving birth we confirm the gender of the child and we raise them as such.
Of it is a girl we raise that child to be a woman we expect her to be. There comes the ideas of gender identity and gender roles. Now that people are seen as equal, and what a man can do a woman can do, the term gender is being used anyhow.
Unfortunately, if you were born a man then your body naturally works like that, same with the women. Which means there are God assigned duties that are specifically for men and those that are specifically for women. A woman cannot produces sperms the same way a man cannot carry pregnancy.
However, there are people who are born male but they feel like they are female and or are attracted to other men. The same goes with women. There are also people who are attracted to both genders, male and female and others go as far as getting attracted to animals.
Guys and lesbians have been fighting for their rights. Some have suffered discrimination at work, in societies and churches too. Some have been condemned by their families. Well, I don’t blame the parents because when the child was born, they celebrated a male or female child.
They raised you like one and now you are telling them you are not a men inside, you are a woman or you are a men but you want to have sex with another man. Yes, it is what it is but it’s not easy to accept that. It is even illegal in some countries and religion s like Muslim do not support that.
So, this whole thing of attraction is what is called sexual orientation. Being heterosexual or homosexual or bisexual is what is called sexual orientation. Yes, you may feel like a man when your gender is female but you will still be regarded as a woman.
You will still avoid using the men’s bathroom because most of them will see you as a woman and may feel uncomfortable to have you in their restroom. People have discovered this and in some countries People want their gender to be altered on their birth certificates .
Well, it is awkward to do that and it may cause problems in the country on security basis. That is why people who really eager to be different are going for an altering surgery. They become transgendered. Their genitals will be changed that is why it is called transgender.
