A career in nursing is usually a very demanding one physically and time wise but it is always stable and promising. It is rare to find an unemployed nurse in many countries.

Nurses are always on demand in developed countries which then gives nurses a variety of opportunities to choose from. The demand has even increased especially after the Covid 19 pandemic.

There is always a vacant for a nurse somewhere. However, it takes a couple of years to be able to acquire the required qualifications. Physical and emotional strength are qualities that one should possess.

Thus is because you are most likely to work long hours and you deal with different patients with different illnesses. Sometimes you lose patients to death and you should be able to handle the loss.

To be a nurse in Zimbabwe you should get five Ordinary level passes including mathematics, science and English. Consider taking science subjects like biology in high school.

After that you may choose a nursing program of your choice and keep in mind that you should be between the age of 17 and 35. You may choose to take a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a diploma.

A diploma takes 3 years and a degree will take you four years. You may choose to be a registered nurse RGN), a registered midwife or an enrolled nurse.

A Bachelor’s degree will always be a good choice as it offers many or diverse options. You will have knowledge is broader and can work in different positions.

After deciding you may enrol in a nursing school, could be a public or private nursing school. Public schools are always cheaper and more affordable. You may apply for a scholarship too.

After you are done with your program, you will be required to wrote a state examination which you must pass so that you can be registered with the Zimbabwe nursing Council. You pay a registration fee.

Once you get obtain your Practicing certificate then you are good to go. This certificate must be renewed every year and it is wiser to further your studies in nursing and consider finding a specialisation.

Specialists tend to earn more. Remember to be kind and patient when you deal with people.
